Caring for an instrument starts with handling it in the right way. When holding the flute, see that the keys are not bent due to your hand pressure.

It is essential to polish the surface of the flute once a while. However, you should be beware of using silver polish which ruins the surface and damages the levers and rods. Always use a piece of micro-fibre cloth for polishing. The cloth must be squeaky clean to absorb all the oil and residue. Do not polish the surface roughly. For oiling and cleaning, take the flute to a flute technician.

Music teaches discipline. While you are disciplined enough to practice for a set time-span everyday, why not demonstrate discipline in keeping the flute in the flute case after practice. Never leave it on bed, in the couch or on a table top. Right after a concert, when you are basking in appreciation and admiration of your fans, don’t forget to clean your flute and keep it inside the gig bag.
